"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."

Colossians 3:23

Advanced Placement

In an effort to provide opportunities for students seeking academic enrichment and are planning to undertake a four-year university degree, ACSS offers several Advanced Placement courses.  Advanced placement courses are administered by the College Board which is based in the United States and is widely accepted in Canada.  This is the same board that produces the SAT exams for college entrance.

AP courses are designed to cover the same content and have a similar level of difficulty as typical first year college courses.  Because of this, students who take these courses and score reasonably well on College Board-administered exams, are granted exemptions from first year courses at many colleges and universities around the world.  The requirements for these exemptions vary from institution to institution but the courses themselves are highly recognized in almost all academic circles

Typically, students enrolling in AP courses are very interested in the subject area and have demonstrated both a strong work ethic and a desire to explore the topics more deeply.  Students must also be highly motivated.   One advantage to the student is that credit will be obtained in both the grade 12 subject and the AP subject.  For example, a student enrolling in AP French Language would receive credit for both French 12 (4 credits) and AP French Language (4 credits), assuming passing grades were achieved.

The exploration of Advanced Placement opportunities is one way in which we are seeking to improve the academic profile of our high school.  If you have any questions about the AP program, please don’t hesitate to call.
